Job Description Summary

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.

Job Description

Due to continued growth of our program, we are searching for a new Manager, Education & Compliance to provide dynamic leadership to internal and external educational initiatives and meticulous attention to program compliance.

Fundamental Aspects Of The Position Include

As a Manager, Education & Compliance, you will collaborate with internal and external units to develop robust and creative instructional opportunities and ensure compliance. You will work closely with senior leaders at the GTP/ODC, design and execute educational workshops across the ~300 person organization, and interface actively with young talent to provide positive, enriching experiences.

  • Education & Community Outreach: Manage all educational initiatives at GTP. Address inquiries, arrange interviews, conduct routine check-ins to assess needs and overall student experience, and complete administrative requirements for undergraduates, Master's students, PhD students, and visiting scholars to GTP/ODC. Design and administer traditional GTP summer high school program. Explore opportunities to expand the educational programs offered through GTP.
  • Internal Educational Resources: Design, publicize, and schedule workshops on timely topics for the whole organization, such as confidentiality, patents, insider trading, manuscript preparation, statistics, basic business writing, and technical & scientific writing. Develop and distribute resources across the organization. Collect feedback and formulate new workshops to address evolving needs. Partner with internal and external subject matter experts as required.
  • Program Compliance: Oversee and provide resources for export compliance program, administer compliance officer program and other COVID-19 requirements, manage and distribute FCOI policy and notices, and address other TBD compliance initiatives. Manage organizational messaging and training. Create resources. Partner with GTP HR and Administrative Operations & other departments at the university as necessary to accomplish objectives.
  • GTP Director Support: Maintain and distribute COI disclosures; manage the FCOI notification process for staff, keep complete records, and assist in certifying compliance; partner with executive administration team to make appropriate disclosure statements for event participation.
  • Special Program Initiatives: Launch new programs according to changing needs, following kick-off either administer directly or transfer to another unit. Partner with other units at GTP to assist with their community outreach initiatives.
  • Education & Compliance Administration: Collect and analyze data, maintain records, develop professional messaging.
Qualified candidates will have experience administering educational programs, managing compliance, and working collaboratively.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology, liberal arts, science, technology, communications, or business required. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Superb technical writing and presentation skills to transform information into accurate, understandable messaging is required.
  • Experience designing curricula and running instructional programs/workshops is required.
  • Experience to include a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an educator, instructor, or workshop facilitator is preferred.
  • Experience in compliance and risk management is preferred.
  • Experience working with minor children is preferred.
  • Experience in graphic arts is preferred.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat required.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and/or Photoshop) is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and implement new software and technology required.
  • Proficiency with EndNote and Qualtrics preferred.
  • Must be a strategic thinker with excellent organization, written and verbal communications skills as well as strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, technical accuracy, and ability to work productively as a team member.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse and close-working team in a fast-paced, executive-level setting requiring initiative, strong organization, attention to detail, adherence to critical deadlines, analytical skills, flexibility, sound judgment, and the prioritization of multiple demands.
