CQUniversity is seeking a Professorial Research Fellow to deliver the requisite academic, research and strategic leadership required to develop and lead a team of researchers to drive an exciting greenfield research focus for the University.


CQUniversity’s Gladstone Marina Campus is ideally placed to deliver on and become a focal point for hydrogen research and development. With the port city of Gladstone identified as a focus of the Queensland Hydrogen Industry Strategy, and Australia’s national strategy estimating that the hydrogen industry could contribute up to $26 billion a year in additional GDP by 2050.

Reporting to the Vice-President Research and strongly linked to the School of Engineering and Technology, you will play a key role in establishing the University’s new Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Precinct at the Gladstone Marina campus, developing key relationships with industry to identify and respond to emerging challenges and opportunities in industrial hydrogen application, renewable energies, and related fields.


You will have a focus on coordinating research, outreach and engagement with relevant industries, domestic and international experts to trial pilot projects, deliver new knowledge and drive the development of innovative training packages to develop critical workforce skills for emerging hydrogen industries in Gladstone, and across the nation.

You will be key to ensuring outcomes are achieved by working in close collaboration with researchers, and act as a conduit between the University, industry and community stakeholders to identify industry issues and deliver real solutions that can be accelerated to market.

Position Requirements


  • You would be expected to meet the educational qualifications and academic standing appropriate for a professorial academic appointment, or to have equivalent qualifications and/or significant professional standing if appointed from the public or private sector. Appointment at this level normally requires a doctoral qualification or advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant experience and standing in your academic or professional field.

  • Thorough understanding of hydrogen propulsion systems or related research fields.
