The University of Queensland Senate

The University of Queensland (UQ) Senate is the peak governing body of the University as constituted by the University of Queensland Act 1998. The primary role of Senate is to exercise oversight of the University and its affairs. In particular, Senate ensures that the appropriate structures, policies, processes and planning are in place for UQ to effectively manage its activities and achieve its goals. Senate reviews and approves the strategic direction of the University as outlined in The University of Queensland's Strategic Plan.

About This Opportunity

Our Senate Secretary provides high level advice and strategic support to the Chancellor as Chair of the Senate. The position provides professional secretariat functions to support the Senate's deliberations and enable it to effectively discharge its responsibilities and statutory obligations. The Senate Secretary works closely with the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor on the business of Senate and its committees.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have substantial understanding of the tertiary education sector, with extensive experience in governance and committee support. Skills in leadership, planning, organisation, management and administration are key, coupled with demonstrable expertise in the interpretation of policy, rules, and procedures. Your oral and written communication skills will be exemplary, with the ability to draft complex documentation and advise senior stakeholders across the University. An understanding and adherence to confidentiality in this setting is critical.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW level 9.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $117,548 - $124,391, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $137,531 - $145,537.
