State Schools - Indigenous Education is offering an exciting teaching opportunity for a teacher with Solid Pathways-STEM. Solid Pathways- STEM is an innovative program specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The objective is to support, nurture and encourage high achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student to continue their academic success. The program uses online classrooms enabling delivery to a vast number of students across the State. Students participating in the program from Year 4-6 have the opportunity to explore STEM in culturally responsive ways, developing skills and knowledge specifically designed to meet the needs of each year level cohort.

As the Teacher for Solid Pathways-STEM you will be part of a small teaching team lead by a Head of Department.

As part of this teaching role you will have:

  • An understanding of STEM subject matters as outlined in the P-6 Australian Curriculum
  • An understanding of the role of STEM and how it impacts the lives of students
  • Enthusiasm and openness to learning in this constantly developing field
  • Write materials and resources that support high quality teaching practice, instructional leadership and school community partnerships.
  • Work with other team members to plan, design and write teaching and learning material and resources for use in various educational environments.
  • Liaise with Central Office, team managers, directors and other stake holders to meet the targets and outcomes as identified in state wide frameworks and processes.
  • Use and model effective and productive work practices enabled by digital technologies.
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to developing performance and knowledge of teaching, learning and school improvement.
  • The duties of this position involve communication with and support for Aboriginal students and Torres Strait Islander students and their families. It is not mandatory for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person to fill this position.
N.B. Interested teachers should consider that:
  • Current Queensland Teacher registration is required for this position, previous experience in similar roles and/or teaching experience would be highly regarded.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, and culturally-responsive pedagogies, would also be highly desirable.
  • This is a Central Office project, however the position is located at the Warilda Conference Centre, Wooloowin, unless otherwise determined to meet the Department's needs.
  • The role may require teachers to attend and supervise students at extra curricula activities.
