JOB DESCRIPTION

Kenmore State High School is seeking a highly motivated teacher to commence at the start of term 2. This position is suited to someone who has experience and a passion for assisting students in intensive 1:1 and small group literacy and numeracy support assisting students from diverse backgrounds, those that are disengaged and have significant barriers impacting their current education.

Known locally as The Junior Assist Teacher (JAT), you will provide intensive 1:1 and small group curriculum (literacy and numeracy) teaching support to prioritised / targeted/ eligible students in years 7, 8 & 9 at risk / dis engaging from school due to behaviour, social emotional, mental health and/or learning difficulties.

The successful applicant would be required to work in our Junior Secondary Hub (7-9) as part of a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team whose objective is to engage all students in learning, no matter how challenging their behaviour and circumstances. Kenmore State High School utilises a case management model that involves identifying and understanding each student's issues and developing appropriate solutions.

The successful applicant would directly support students who are falling behind and are below year level expectations in literacy and numeracy and have additional complex needs and have the flexibility to support all prioritised students through small groups of students and individual student support

Support For Students Can Include

  • establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents and other - teaching staff to focus on student learning, wellbeing and engagement
  • identifying the literacy and numeracy requirements of students with complex learning needs and supporting them to complete assessment tasks
  • differentiating teaching practice, for example scaffolding tasks to meet the students at their point of need
  • tracking and monitoring student progress
