  • Channel your passion for communication and lead events to support farmers with science to inform on-ground action.
Position overview

Sustainable Farms is an innovative project that supports farmers with scientific evidence about how to manage natural assets to improve profitability, wellbeing and biodiversity on farms. It is built on the long- term monitoring studies in the South West Slopes that are led by Professor David Lindenmayer.

You will support Sustainable Farms by collecting high quality biophysical data and assist in the design and publication of research projects. You will also share your knowledge with the community through field days, workshops, papers, and public seminars.

Applications are invited from individuals who love to be in the field conducting biodiversity surveys and who also have a strong commitment and passion for sharing knowledge with the community to improve outcomes for both farmers and the environment.

The successful candidate will have a solid knowledge of vertebrate field ecology, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a regionally dispersed team. You will be proactive and strategically minded with the ability to supervise and mentor junior staff.

The Research and Extension Officer reports to the Project Director, Sustainable Farms and will work closely with staff at the university and in regional locations, along with landowners, external partners in Local Land Services and Landcare groups.
