About The Opportunity And The Organisation

The Head of Academic & Education Focussed (EF) Development is a key leadership position within the Education Pillar in the portfolio of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience (PVCESE).

This role leads the strategy and operations of the Academic & Education Focussed Development theme in alignment with UNSW’s Strategy 2025 and in collaboration with Faculties, Schools and Divisions.

This involves leading a team of academic developers and professional staff who support the development of academic staff through the provision of professional learning programs, initiatives, activities, and events. A critical element and responsibility of the role is to support and enhance the teaching practice of academic staff through programs and services that are relevant and timely and engage a broad cohort of academic staff at the University.

About The Successful Candidate

To apply for this position you must have:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience (including teaching experience) or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience. A PhD in an area relevant to delivering educational excellence and enhancing the student experience would be an advantage
  • A thorough understanding of issues relating to educational quality in a tertiary education setting and the ability to provide strategic advice and insight related to the improvement of the student experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing academic development programs within a higher education setting, ensuring that their design and delivery align with policies and continuous quality assurance processes
  • Demonstrated experience and success in leading change through the development and implementation of institution-wide programs, initiatives, services or activities within a higher education setting
  • High-level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative professional relationships with University staff and external stakeholders
  • Significant leadership and team management skills with demonstrated success in developing and fostering teamwork and contributing positively as a senior team member to enable and ensure the achievement of team and organisational goals
  • Effective financial management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with specialist staff to manage and report on allocated budgets
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW Health and safety policies and procedures
