Course Description

The Blavatnik School of Government (University of Oxford) is working in partnership with Pearson to deliver a series of professional development courses in the field of Public Policy. It is aimed at busy working professionals keen to develop and enhance their careers in Public Policy from a broad range of professional settings and geographies. 

The role

Course Facilitators support learners through engagement and feedback utilising a bespoke Virtual Learning Environment and are critical to learner success and satisfaction. Course Facilitators typically engage learners through email communication, discussion forums, live online sessions and through feedback on formative and summative assessments. It is essential that Course Facilitators have a broad range of knowledge of the field of Public Policy and an ability to demonstrate their presence and engagement. 

The partnership is seeking a committed, well organised, and knowledgeable Course Facilitator with experience of online teaching and learning. You will be a subject matter expert in the field of political philosophy with an interest in supporting professional learners to develop and to share your knowledge, experience, and perspectives in a supportive and inclusive environment. 

Must haves

Essential attributes:

• Political Philosophy qualification(s) at postgraduate level as a minimum

• Evidence of teaching and supporting learning, ideally at postgraduate level

• Evidence of teaching and supporting learning online

• Excellent communicator, able to demonstrate a passion for the subject and willingness to share expertise and knowledge with others

• Confident and adaptable with the use digital technologies.

• Availability to support live sessions with suitable technology (high-speed internet, camera, microphone)

Desirable attributes:

• A doctorate in Political Philosophy or a related field

• Evidence of relevant scholarship and/or related professional experience

• Ability to adapt to new systems and processes quickly.

If successful, you will be invited to complete an onboarding process which will support the development of competence with the Virtual Learning Environment and course facilitator processes. A full Operating Standards document, detailing the Course Facilitator responsibilities, will be shared during onboarding. 

The job description is indicative of the role of a Course Facilitator and is subject to change. You will be employed on a contract basis with no guarantee of work offered. 

Requirements of the role

  • Delivery of planned academic content
  • Facilitating learning activities and assessment tasks (including e-moderation, assessment and feedback)
  • Marking, processing and submitting assessment results
  • Online facilitators are not required to establish curriculum, design learning activities, schedule learning and teaching, set assessments or develop marking schemes.
