JOB DESCRIPTION

Full Job Description
Patagonia School holiday program facilitation
Perfect for those studying in the area of education / outdoor ed
Must have a passion for the environment, sport, and the outdoors

The Company:
Patagonia is an outdoor apparel business like no other, "We’re in business to save our home planet." Staying true to our core values during 40+ years in business has helped us create a company we're proud to work for. Our values stay true to a business that was started by a band of climbers and surfers, and the minimalist style they promoted. The approach we take demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility; build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to protect nature, not bound by convention.

Patagonia is a family-owned business, and as such celebrating our family heritage is a core part of our culture. One way we do this is by offering our Employees Patagoniac kids the most epic School Holiday Program.

Every School Holidays you will see our kids out and about traveling the breadth of the Surf Coast, from the natural waterslides in the Otways to the bike tracks of the You Yangs and everywhere in between! We play outside from morning until night, regardless of the weather. Our aim is to give our kids the same experiences that we had as a child, from rock climbing to the simple things; climbing a tree, jumping a wave, making cubbies, sitting around a fire making and eating damper.

The program allows our primary school age kids to have the freedom to run and explore; to challenge themselves, to take risks and to feel confident and strong in their bodies; to be healthy and happy. We believe in creating a holiday program where kids are engaged; playing and experiencing nature is what we do. We recognise that playing in nature is an important part of childhood and it also delivers significant educational and health benefits, as well as a lifelong love of nature and friendships.

The Role: Outdoor Play Facilitator.
We are looking for a casual Outdoor Play Facilitator to assist with the daily running of our School Holiday Program from 6th April through to the 15th April. Play workers enable children to extend their own play and they protect and enhance the play space so that it is a rich play environment. Play workers ensure that the play space is inclusive - supporting all children to make the most of the opportunities available in their own way. Play workers see children and young people as competent individuals. They understand the need for children to encounter and create uncertainty and challenges as part of their play, they neither direct nor organise play.

Ongoing opportunities for each and every School Holidays will be available for the right candidate.

As a casual Outdoor Play Facilitator based from our Torquay HQ, you will be responsible for:

Assisting our leaders to deliver our outdoor program through a range of different environments, and adventure activities over a two-week period, working with kids ranging in age from 5 - 12.
Participating in all activities and sports - surfing, canoeing, hiking, bike riding, rock climbing, sailing, bush craft, etc
Understand our play spaces on the surf coast (the play opportunities, the plants, the resident maggies, the seasons).
Modelling an ethic of care, a love for the natural environment and a passion for the outdoors looking for moments to educate our kids every day.
Being creative, planning on-the-fly for pop up outdoor games/activities that are a mixture of outdoor play, outdoor learning and outdoor adventure.
Allowing ‘kids to be kids’ but recognising moments that could jeopardise safety, and proactively dealing with that behaviour by having a restorative conversation that inspires and educates individuals to be better.
Having capacity for good organisational skills and reliability - juggling logistics, equipment, and transportation so that each day is harmonious in its execution.
Observe what works and what doesn’t and adapt as necessary. We see this group as an ongoing exploration of nature play.

It is necessary for applicants to have:
Demonstrated outdoor experience with children
Australian Childhood Foundations - Safeguarding Children Certificate
Level 2 / Senior First Aid qualification
Anaphylaxis Management Training (Ideal)
Working with Children Check
Victorian Drivers Licence
Clear Criminal Records Checks
Undergoing a Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation or similar
Undergoing a Bachelor of Education
Undergoing a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
Water Safety - Surf Life Saving Australia Bronze Medallion or Life Saving Victoria Community Surf Life Saving Certificate (Ideal)

Equal Employment Opportunity:
All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration without attention to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Patagonia is proud of our diverse workforce and encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people from different cultural backgrounds.

Please include a cover letter telling us about your outdoor experience working with kids, your passion for the environment and caring for others. We'd also love to know why you are interested in assisting to run our School Holiday Program.
