- Full time (35 hrs/week) Fixed term for 12 months, with possibility of renewal
- Level 6: $88K-94K Plus 17% Superannuation and leave loading
The immunogenomics group operates across the Immunovirology and Pathogenesis Program (IVPP) at the Kirby Institute and School of Medical Sciences and is a collaborative team of scientists encompassing the disciplines of immunology, computational biology, statistics, bioinformatics and genomics. The group works closely with clinicians in the disciplines of clinical immunology, and infectious disease. The immunogenomics group is also affiliated with the Garvan Institute.
We are seeking to appoint a Research Officer who will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the area of bioinformatics and specifically single cell genomics. The position will provide technical and research assistance to senior research staff and also support to PhD and Honours students in the analysis of single cell data and other clinical and phenotypic measurements within the research projects conducted at IVPP. These projects are focussed on the study of immune responses against viral infections (COVID-19, HIV, HPV, influenza), cancer, and also novel immunotherapies.
Skills and Experience:
- Masters or PhD Degree in bioinformatics or related discipline
- Knowledge of programming languages with a strong preference for Python and bash script
- Knowledge and experience with R packages and Bio-Conductor
- Proven experience in bioinformatics analysis of single cell genomics data.
- Excellent computing skills and demonstrated experience in data analysis.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise own workload and work independently as well as an effective member of a team
- High level interpersonal and negotiation skills including ability to liaise effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
