There is one permanent, flexible full-time position available at Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) at Gatton. The offender population of SQCC comprises sentenced and remand women that are classified as high or low security prisoners.

The Vocational Education Training Officer (Kitchen Operations) will design, co-ordinate, implement and evaluate vocational training programs in the field of Kitchen Operations and related activities to meet the needs of the female offender population within the facility.

In this role you will:

- Assess participants vocational training needs and provides advice regarding vocational training and employment opportunities both within custody and in the community.

- Utilise flexible, blended and distributed learning techniques, options and products to meet the needs of the participants.

- Coordinate and deliver vocational programs in relation to the delivery of qualifications from nationally recognised training packages and accredited courses, including but not limited to Certificate II in Kitchen Operations and Prepare and serve expresso coffee.

- Assess student performance against competency standards and recommend and/or provide additional training, where necessary, for students to gain competency.

- Maintain records of course participation including storage (physical and electronic), retrieval and archiving.

- Administer a quality control system for maintaining feedback with management, providers and participants.

- Ensure accuracy and completeness of student participation in vocational programs on the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS).

- Contribute to research and planning/programming, development, implementation and review of subjects/courses.

- Participate in development programs to develop and maintain currency of personal and professional skills, knowledge and attitudes.

- Maintain currency with industry practices, workplace delivery and contemporary teaching methodologies in relevant field/s.

- Support Centre-based vocational education, induction and training providers as required.

- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including industry reference groups, business and the community.

- Network with industry groups within the community to develop employment pathways for prisoners.

- Coordinate activities in collaboration with Education, Industries and Specialist Operations.

The essential requirements for this role are:

- Experience in the design, delivery and review of vocational education training programs to individuals and groups

- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to think on your feet when facilitating

- Confident facilitator with demonstrated capability to successfully engage a diverse audience of adult learners to help cement knowledge transfer and application

- Knowledge of adult learning principles - Demonstrated ability to assess the vocational education and training needs of clients as a member of a multi-disciplinary team

- Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) negotiation and conflict resolution skills and the ability to build and maintain working relationships with a group of diverse stakeholders including staff, community groups and visitors

- Knowledge and application of legislation, policies and procedures including Workplace Health and Safety

Qualifications, professional registration, conditions and other requirements

- It is an operational requirement that the candidate must hold at minimum a Certificate II in Kitchen Operations or similar relevant trade qualification, trade certificate and industry experience.

- Possession of a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40116) or equivalent qualification would be highly desirable. Candidates not possessing a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will be required to achieve that qualification within 12 months.
