Edith Cowan University is a large, multi-campus institution serving communities nationally and internationally. The University currently has two metropolitan campuses at Mount Lawley and Joondalup, and also serves Western Australia’s South West Region from a campus at Bunbury, 200km south of Perth.

The School of Education is one of the largest providers of Initial Teacher Education in Australia with an excess of 5,000 students. The School offers a broad range of programs including Early Childhood Studies, Primary, Secondary and Postgraduate Education.

The Role(s)


The positions are for suitably qualified generalist Primary/Early Childhood Education academics with an interest and experience in one or a number of the following areas

Reporting to the Associate Dean (Primary), exciting ongoing opportunities have arisen for Senior Lecturers (Level C) and Lecturers (Level B), within the fields of Primary/Early Childhood Education. We are seeking innovative and creative Primary/Early Childhood academics who are passionate about education.
  • Health Physical Education - This role will involve teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate pre-service teachers in HPE across the Primary and Early Childhood Disciplines
  • Visual Arts - This role will involve teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate pre-service teachers in Visual Arts across the Primary and Early Childhood Disciplines
  • Generalist Primary, including Mathematics and/or Technologies
  • Generalist Primary, including Literacy and/or Languages

The successful candidates will demonstrate a high level of connectivity between the education of Pre-Service Teachers, their own teaching experience and engagement with the primary and early childhood education field.

Key Criteria
  • PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Track record in quality research and output in FoR 13/39
  • Expertise in an identified field and general classroom/early learning setting teaching
  • Australian Curriculum, SCASA WA, and knowledge of the EYLF and NQS
  • Strong pedagogical approach, experience and expertise in primary/early childhood teaching
  • Ability to teach across Disciplines both within identified field and across Primary and Early Childhood Learning Areas (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within teams and lead teams
  • Demonstrated relationship building and interpersonal skills

Level B candidacy
Candidates will have a growing profile in learning and teaching and demonstrate community and professional links. The successful applicant will have an in-depth knowledge of the primary curriculum as well as the pedagogical content knowledge required to be an effective teacher. Additionally, they will have evidence of a research profile with Q1/Q2 publications in FoR 13/39 and a clear research plan. For the Health and Physical Education and Visual Arts positions it is expected the successful applicant will also have knowledge and experience in Early Childhood Education and curriculum.

Level C candidacy
The ideal candidates for the Senior Lecturer (Level C) roles will have or be working towards a national profile and be able to demonstrate leadership and excellence in both research and learning and teaching as well as professional, industry and community links including experience of working with registration bodies. It is expected that the successful applicant will have an in-depth knowledge of primary curriculum and pedagogy, national learning frameworks and the quality agenda including regulatory requirements. Additionally, they will possess a record of quality research and publications in FoR 13/39 with a clear research plan that algins to the ECU School of Education, higher degree research supervision and demonstrated capacity to provide teaching leadership in curriculum review, design and implementation. For the Health and Physical Education and Visual Arts positions it is expected the successful applicants will also have knowledge and experience in Early Childhood Education and curriculum

These full-time, ongoing positions attract a remuneration of $102,253-$120,814 (Level B) / $124,522 - $143,081 (Level C) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
