About This Opportunity

The School of Civil Engineering is seeking an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to research funded by the ARC Linkage Funding Scheme and Redland City Council focussing on the coastal flow slides at Amity Point, the World’s most dynamic beach.

The key role of the successful applicant will be to undertake research on coastal flow slides through leading field measurements (land and water-based measurements) by a team of researchers including 5 academics, three PhD students and several masters and thesis students. This research will include processing field measurements for analytical or numerical models of triggering mechanism(s), initial flow slide dynamics, termination mechanism(s) and combine them with existing longshore sediment transport models to form a coastal flow slide model.

This position is based at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will possess a PhD in the field of Coastal, Ocean, Geotechnical, Environmental or Civil Engineering, or a closely related field (e.g., coastal geomorphology), with a strong background in field data collection.

You should be able to demonstrate knowledge in one or more of the following areas: coastal, geotechnical, and environmental engineering or science and leadership in research projects including evidence of contribution to research and quality research publications.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

What We Can Offer

This is a part-time (50%), fixed term position at Academic level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $85,300 - $94,637, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $99,801 - $110,726.
