JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW:

The role of the Religious Coordinator is to provide spiritual guidance and leadership to the College community in line with the College identity of ‘An Australian School In The Islamic Tradition’ – which is about cultivating and nurturing a thriving Australian Muslim identity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Teaching religious knowledge to students based on the College’s Islamic curriculum and programs.
  • Providing religious instruction, programs and materials to support the Islamic formation of staff and the wider College community.
  • Providing pastoral care to the students and staff based on the College’s religious and pastoral care programs.
  • Development of religious education and materials for use in the classroom.
  • Producing relevant religious materials including publications and videos for the College community.
  • Input into curriculum reviews and renewal for religious programs and services.
  • Provide input into improving the College’s religious programmes and teaching practices.
  • Liaise with the Board of Imams Victoria, Jamiatul Ulama of Victoria, and Islamic Council of Victoria on matters pertaining to the Islamic community.
  • Assisting with the coordination and preparation of sermons and prayers.
  • Assisting the presiding Imams and Muftis in our area on matters relating to the College and our Islamic community.
  • Assisting in the overall field of religious services required by the College.
  • Commit to ongoing professional learning in areas of religious education and instruction
  • Being familiar with and following College guidelines and procedures.
  • Foster partnerships with students’ families and promote opportunities for the school community to understand and improve education of Muslim students.
  • Role model and embody the beauty of the Islamic Tradition and Sunnah in attire and personal presentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A relevant diploma, degree or higher qualification including any relevant post graduate qualifications, with an emphasis on religious studies in the Islamic faith.


KEY SKILLS:

  • An Islamic Scholar well versed in understanding of Quran and Hadith.
  • Commitment to and understanding of religious education and instruction.
  • Ability to build rapport with staff and students. To promote learning and growth of all learners.
  • Be able to work independently and in a team. Good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Open to supporting Islamic staff in delivering Islamic content through digital media.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning.
