About You

You have a passion for neuroscience research and have a PhD in neuroscience, psychology, physiotherapy, exercise science, or related field. You have expertise in human neurophysiology, including experience in research projects using non-invasive brain stimulation, electroencephalography, or neuroimaging from conception to publication of results (e.g. study design, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of results, manuscript preparation). You have experience working with patient populations (e.g. stroke, chronic pain, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis), performing neurophysiological and/or behaviour assessments. You are committed to conducting high quality research and further developing your skillset and collaborative networks.

About The Role

The key purpose of this role will be to work within the Psychology discipline and the Centre for Healthy Ageing at Murdoch University and the Fiona Stanley Hospital to contribute to the completion of an NHMRC-funded research project. The primary role is to conduct research investigating neural changes following burn injury in humans: specifically, using non-invasive brain stimulation to assess motor cortex excitability following burn injury and to test the efficacy of a combined peripheral stimulation-brain stimulation intervention to improve functional outcomes following burn injury. It is expected that in this role, the postdoctoral research fellow will contribute to research, individually and as a member of a team, and produce quality research publications and other outputs. The project is a collaboration with scientists, clinicians, and allied health staff: it is expected that the postdoctoral fellow will be required to work effectively with this multidisciplinary team.

What You’ll Bring To This Role

  • A PhD in neuroscience, psychology, physiotherapy, exercise science or related field relevant to appointment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of human neurophysiology research and processing human neurophysiology data.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary and collegial team under a broad direction only and exercise initiative in undertaking responsibilities.
  • Willingness to supervisor Honours and Higher Degree Research Students.
  • Willingness to consult with, and provide advice to, undergraduate and postgraduate students, demonstrating the ability to create environments that foster learning to engage a diverse range of students.
