Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research is seeking an Indigenous Outreach and Events Officer to be responsible for the planning, coordination and participation in activities and events to promote study opportunities at UTS. The role is pivotal in the coordination of the Galuwa programs, a key schools engagement experience. The position is required to engage with local, regional and remote schools as well as attend careers markets, job fairs and community related events.

About the role

This is an identified role pursuant to the exemption granted to UTS under s126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), we will only consider applications for this position from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates.

If successful in applying for this role, you will:

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of promotional campaigns to attract increased numbers of Indigenous student enrolments
  • Assist with the promotion of Indigenous cultural activities and dates to raise awareness within the University, Indigenous and broader community, including the development of a calendar of identified key dates.
  • Assist with developing and designing marketing and promotional materials to market programs to engage an Indigenous audience
  • Promotion of scholarship opportunities for Indigenous students
  • Liaise with Faculties, Units and Divisions to plan, deliver and promote Indigenous activities such as the Galuwa and Nanga Mai schools engagement programs
  • Establish appropriate communication processes with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the Indigenous students are effectively aware of UTS;
  • Develop relationships and knowledge of individual faculty course offerings in order to be able to liaise effectively with relevant stakeholders to optimise resources and improve outcomes

  • Must be of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander decent
  • A thorough understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to market programs and events to engage an Indigenous audience
  • Experience working in an environment with adult tertiary and high school students
  • Experience in the coordination and management of Cultural events in an Indigenous setting
Remuneration/Salary

Base Salary Range: $71,774 to $82,110 pa (HEW 5)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
