The West Moreton Education and Training Centre is a co-educational school which delivers educational programs for up to 32 remanded and sentenced young people at the West Moreton Youth Detention Centre located in Wacol.

The centre operates on a 1:4 teacher student ratio and works collaboratively with interdepartmental agencies in restorative practices and to address literacy / numeracy gaps. We offer courses aimed at preparing students for transition to the community, employment and further training. Construction of the educational facilities are nearing completion and include purpose-built classrooms, a multi-purpose court and specialist program facilities. Our staff are passionate about helping improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of our students, many of whom have had disrupted or negative experiences of schooling and often have lived through complex trauma and disadvantage.

The Queensland Government is committed to keeping communities safe and changing the story for young people in our justice system. In addition to the Department of Education's Advancing Education Action Plan, the Youth Justice Strategy Action Plan 2019-2021 will form the basis of the school's strategic direction with an overarching mission to reduce reoffending.

Please note, this is a temporary full-time position until 11 December 2021 with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

Experience in vocational training and a current TAE40116 qualification will be highly regarded.
