About the role

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Program Office (SPO), this role is responsible for business case development of transformative projects and initiatives, which are aligned with, and fundamental for, the successful deployment of the University’s transformation and change agenda.

Current programs include operationalising the services of the on-campus Student Residences Project and managing the Health & Recreation Centre Project from concept design through to integration of operations.

This diverse role incorporates all aspects of project management from conceptualisation through to operationalising the delivery of the required functionality for each program of works. As such, this role will develop close collaborative working relationships across the University, including the Vice Chancellor’s executive team, Executive Deans, Faculty Executive Managers and Heads of Central Divisions.

Duties include:

  • Lead and support SPO projects and programs by providing effective program management leadership, and fostering a continuous improvement culture through to operationalising of and embedding in services
  • Develop and implement a communication and stakeholder engagement strategy
  • Work with Project Manager(s) to ensure project(s) are delivered to schedule, co-ordinating timely reporting on all aspects of the program
  • Co-ordinate program and project meetings (including team meetings, Steering Group meeting, stakeholder workshops, events and other activities) as required
  • Attend to financial reporting and project budgeting in line with project methodologies
  • Perform project steering group secretariat duties, including communications and engagement with executive level stakeholders
  • Manage identified and emerging risks; putting risk mitigation strategies in place including managing risk register and lead reporting of program risks and resolution actions; identify thematic issues and dependencies across the program/project and ensure reporting to appropriate governance forums

To succeed in this role, your commercial nous and political savvy should be coupled with a strong track record of business case development and delivery of strategic programs in similarly large and complex organisations.
 
Your experience and capabilities should include:

  • The development, articulation and achievement of a benefit realisation process.
  • Demonstrated experience with contract management including resource/HR contracts and vendor/service contracts and statements of work
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, tracking and administration of project budgets and forecasts
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence outcomes within a complex environment whilst maintaining an emphasis on fostering strong collaborative relationships and stakeholder engagement
  • An understanding of project methodology and/or frameworks
  • A background in construction or other large infrastructure environments would be highly regarded
