About Sarina State School

Today, Sarina State School incorporates the Sarina Special Education Program as an integral part of the school and provides continuing education from prep to year 6.

Our school is the major centre for the surrounding areas of Armstrong Beach, Freshwater Point and farming surrounds, however many students live in town. As of 2016 we are an Enrolment Managed School due to the growing popularity of the schools programs and the growing Sarina population.

Your Opportunity

Sarina State School is located 30km south of Mackay in the heart of sugar country and has a thriving community that is looking for a dynamic and inclusive Special Education Leader to take on the role of HOSES.

The school has worked consistently on the Department of Education's Inclusion journey, and the acting HOSES will have the exciting opportunity to continue to build this model and staff capability at the forefront of the State-wide agenda.

Your Role

As the Head of Special Education Services you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Lead the school special education unit or special education developmental unit teachers, students and stakeholders to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Are active participants in life long learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  • Are futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students with disability.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the unit to achieve goals.
A mandatory requirement of this role is:
