  • Salary Package: From $95,706 - $102,570 (Level A step 6-8) p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Appointment Type: Full-time, Fixed term for 14 months
  • Macquarie University (North Ryde) location

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to work in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, across the Departments of Cognitive Science and Linguistics. The successful applicant will deliver teaching to the Master of Speech and Language Pathology course with a focus on multilingualism and conduct collaborative research and supervision of Higher Degree Research candidates across a complex mix of projects.

The teaching portion of this position will focus on the design and delivery of postgraduate teaching supporting the Master of Speech and Language Pathology course, focusing on speech pathology practice with adults experiencing communication disabilities. You will also be required to develop curriculum for this course related to multilingualism and speech pathology practice.

The research portion of this position will focus on cross-linguistic experimental psycholinguistics and cognitive neuropsychological investigations of aphasia, using sophisticated statistical analyses and with responsibility from design through analysis and publication. The position will work collaboratively within at team on a cross-institutional and international project funded by the Australian Research Council and led by Professor Lyndsey Nickels.

About You
You will be a suitably qualified academic to deliver postgraduate teaching in the MLSP with a background in professional speech pathology, research in communication disorders, multilingualism, and experimental psycholinguistics.

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with postgraduate teaching in an accredited course in speech pathology, with capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching, including the design, delivery, and management of teaching and assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to design postgraduate curriculum about multilingualism and speech pathology practice for an accredited course in speech pathology.
  • A strong record of contributions to peer reviewed publications and history of research excellence, relative to experience and opportunity.
  • Evidenced strong statistical skills, including experience with (generalised) linear mixed-effects models and principal component analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong research skills and experience in the fields of psycholinguistics, bilingualism, computational modelling and aphasia.
  • Experience in the supervision of HDR students.

Desirable

  • Experience in conducting research with monolingual and bilingual people with aphasia including treatment research.
  • Track record of applications for research grants.
