Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Education and Capability Development Lead to join our newly established North Eastern Public Health Unit (NEPHU).

The NEPHU is a major component of a once in a generation reform of public health delivery in Victoria. This new system consists of three Melbourne metropolitan Public Health Units (North Eastern [NEPHU], Western [WPHU], and South Eastern [SEPHU]) who are linked with the existing six Regional Public Health Units, the DH Intelligence, Case, Contact and Outbreak Management (ICCOM) and COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria (CQV). Together these units form a distributed network, centrally coordinated by ICCOM.

The North Eastern Public Health Unit (NEPHU) Education and Capability Development Lead is a key region wide leadership role that is responsible for the design and delivery of strategies to build, enhance and maintain the capability of the NEPHU case, contract tracing and outbreak management (CTOM) workforce. With direction from the NEPHU Director and Operations Director, the Education and Capability Development Lead will develop the capability framework of the NEPHU and implement, evaluate and continuously improve it within the context of the overarching NEPHU strategic direction.

In close collaboration with Operations Leads and Clinical Leads across the NEPHU region, the Education and Capability Development Lead will drive planning and activity related to the onboarding, training and education of CTOM teams and the NEPHU surge workforce.

As part of the NEPHU regional leadership hub, the Education and Capability Development Lead will help develop and implement training and education programs to support additional public health functions as the NEPHU expands over time.

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate/Key responsibilities will include:

  • Experience and expertise in clinical education at a senior level
  • Registration with the relevant Professional Regulatory Body
  • Post graduate qualifications in education, workplace training or other relevant field, or working towards
  • Knowledge and understanding of capability frameworks and workplace based learning principles
  • Demonstrated competence in a leadership role and the ability to unite teams to achieve common objectives
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including group facilitation experience
  • A broad range of knowledge and experience in modalities for delivery, particular in a remote working environment
  • Demonstrated creative and proactive approach to the management of change
