Welcome to Murgon State High School. We are located in the heart of a small rural township in the South Burnett region. Murgon has a population of approximately 2500. The school was opened in 1945 and has been providing education for 12 to 17 years in the communities of Murgon, Wondai, Cherbourg, Goomeri and Proston for the past 70 years.
Murgon State High School is co-educational catering for students in junior (years 7-9) and senior (years 10-12) secondary schooling including a Special Education unit. We have a mixture of new and/or beginning teachers and many accomplished experienced educators.
In 2019, Murgon State High School will have 384 students enrolled. They come from a variety of backgrounds including farming, rural, local businesses and Indigenous communities. Most students transition into Murgon State High School in year 7 from our feeder primary schools including Murgon State school, Wheatlands State school Cherbourg State school, Cloyna State school, Moffatdale State school ,Windera State school, and St Joseph's Catholic School. Year 10 students from Goomeri State School, Proston State School and Wondai State School also transition into Murgon High. Approximately 46% of our students are Indigenous. Many of our students travel by bus from the rural areas surrounding Murgon.
