St Paul’s College

St Paul's College is a non-systemic Catholic school, providing education for children aged 5 to 18 years with a wide range of needs including intellectual, physical, profound multiple and sensory disabilities, autism and complex medical needs. Our highly skilled multidisciplinary team includes teachers, teaching assistants, speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and school nurse.

In February 2019, we moved into our new sensory-specific school facility in Balwyn. The vision was to create a contemporary, safe and nurturing school environment with state of the art facilities where children and young people with a range of disabilities have a sense of belonging and every opportunity to achieve optimal learning outcomes.

About the role:

We are seeking a Teacher Assistant (Learning Support Officer) to provide support for an exemplary learning environment for Students, supporting their learning and wellbeing needs to reach their full potential within St Paul's College. 

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, assistants, or Allied Health staff to implement individual and group programs to support learning and wellbeing Students outcomes;
  • Support all programs including Hydrotherapy program and school activities including school-wide Positive Behaviour Supports and Interventions, excursions, and school community events;
  • Work effectively with parents, always displaying professional behaviour with an understanding of the issues affecting parents of a child with a disability;
  • Actively participate in all college activities including lunch, recess, staff room duty and special events;
  • Attend to the varying personal and physical needs of Students including toileting and meal assistance.

About you:

  • Minimum Certificate 3 in Disability Services or Education Support or equivalent relevant qualifications or experience;
  • Ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with students, families, school staff and other services;
  • Ability to problem solve, work well under pressure, and during emergency situations;
  • Ability to initiate action and contribute ideas and suggestions for improvement;
  • A full Driver’s License;
  • Current Level Two First Aid qualifications.
