About the role

The Training and Development Manager will be responsible for systematically designing, developing and delivering instructional products and experiences, both digital and physical, in a consistent and reliable fashion with the principle aim of delivering and transferring knowledge (learning) in an efficient, effective, appealing and engaging manner.

A key element of this newly developed role will be the focus on skills acquisition and retention across a broad group of individuals working remotely with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. 

Some Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Identifying and assessing training needs (gap analysis) throughout the organisation via direct observation of tasks, including consultation with managers and staff.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the annual training budget.
  • Development of individualised and group training programs, using all available technology, tools and industry best practice, to align with the business strategy.
  • Delivery of structured on-the-job and remote training content across all facets of business operations spanning: inductions, tool box talks, equipment operation and basic maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring that content and delivery mechanisms are engaging, relevant and interesting to build and retain skills and knowledge.
  • Developing a library of instructional training and assessment materials, by researching, writing and validating assessment and delivery tools and training resources that incorporate both face-to-face & online delivery mechanisms.
  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of individual employee training plans.
  • Coordinating and managing interfaces with management to plan and schedule the effective delivery of training programs for staff.
  • Maintaining and updating training resource materials (e.g. workbooks).
  • Ensuring training records accurately reflect training and development activities undertaken. 
  • Coordinating and documenting training assessment results including participation evidence and their input into the training database system. 
  • Managing and controlling costs associated with budgeted training and development activities.
  • Routine evaluation of training programs to ensure alignment with Business Strategy.
  • Production of e-learning materials and delivery platforms to incorporate the latest advances in technology and industry best practice.
  • Routine auditing of staff and managers to assess the effectiveness of training programs.

Some Skills and Experience 

  • A teaching qualification from a recognised Australian Institute, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or demonstrated capability through past employment experience and/or relevant qualifications. 
  • A broad understanding of how technology can be deployed in the design and delivery of training materials to increase user experience, skills and content uptake.
  • Demonstrated experience in both technical and professional development training.
  • Demonstrated ability to use facilitator approach and apply adult learning principles to engage others in effective learning. 
  • Experienced in the development, implementation and assessment of adult learning programs – incorporating both face to face and online service delivery mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated high level IT skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and operation of computers.
  • Highly-developed verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to deal confidently and courteously with staff at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS’s) and/or other training-related databases.
  • Strong organisational skills; the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities, whilst maintaining attention on detail and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as directed with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds.
  • Relevant vocational experience in the cleaning industry whilst desirable is not essential.
