The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join Ngala in the part time role of Early Childhood Educator with the Child and Parent Centre Calista.

Hours of work are flexible, however there will be a requirement to commit to at least one day a week from 8am to 4pm.

The successful candidate must be a dedicated Educator who is passionate about Early Learning and have the practical experience to deliver a high quality program to parents and carers of children from birth to 8 years, working collaboratively with the Ngala team and other services operating from the Child and Parent Centre.

The Child and Parent Centre Calista is located at Calista Primary School. The centre offers a range of inclusive, evidence-informed and evidence-based support services to Kwinana parents and carers with children from birth to eight years. These include playgroups, school preparation programs, maternal and child health services through Allied Health Professionals, parenting programs, parent groups as well as a range of family support services and events.

Services are being offered at the Centre as well as other community locations such as surrounding primary schools and community centres.

Key Responsibilities include: * Plan and facilitate play based environments to promote group interaction and learning opportunities for parents and their children 0-8yrs, in line with Ngala’s evidence based practice.
  • Promote quality early childhood practice by demonstrating best practice in all parent child activities, role modelling appropriate strategies for guiding children’s behaviour.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with local stakeholders including playgroup leaders and early childhood educators from local schools.
  • Seek opportunities to connect local families with one another and community resources.
You will also meet the following criteria:
  • Bachelor of Early Childhood, Diploma of Children's Services or equivalent related field
  • Experience working with families with young children and groups of parents and their children.
  • Demonstrated ability to create developmentally appropriate play activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development 0-8 years and early parenting.
  • Ability to partake in reflective practice and to be self-directed.
  • Effective interpersonal, relationship building skills and excellent communication skills with both adults and children.
  • Proven ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with Aboriginal families and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of strength-based practice.
  • Intermediate/Proficient Administration level of competency.
