  • Military and Emergency Services Health Australia (MESHA) is a collaborative research institute dedicated to actively informing and improving policy, programs and services for current and former serving Australian military and emergency service personnel and their families. MESHA’s purpose is to optimise the mental health, wellbeing and functioning of current and former serving Australian military members, emergency service personnel and their families through the delivery and support of culturally and industry informed research and support services. This is achieved through the development of national and international interdisciplinary research networks renowned and trusted to deliver high quality, robust and translational research outcomes. MESHA is a charity of The Hospital Research Foundation Group (THRF).

    The Manager of Research Data and Statistics will work within the MESHA research team to provide professional expertise and skills in research study design and implementation, database development and management, data/statistical analysis, student training and supervision in quantitative data analysis, the interpretation and presentation of research and evaluation results, research publication and dissemination. Where applicable, the Manager will also contribute to the development and submission of external research grants.

    Role responsibilities include:

    • Assist with progress reports (including ethics and annual progress reports for funding agencies) on MESHA research projects as required.
    • Assist with preparation of MESHA Board Reports as required.
    • Manuscript and report preparation
    • Assist with the design, development, resourcing, implementation, and completion of MESHA research and evaluation activities. This includes contributing to ethics applications; study and questionnaire design, data management; supervising Research Officers on data related tasks specific to a research project; advanced data analysis and interpretation; and reporting of results.
    • Monitoring and measuring MESHA research quality and fidelity.
    • Assist in developing cost estimates, budget justifications and research plans for data management components of research grant submissions.
    • Ensure that research data is collected, managed, stored, and destroyed in compliance with the requirements of the National Health Medical Research Council National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Human Research (NH&MRC, 2007) and THRF and MESHA Guidelines.

    You will ideally have:

    • PhD in Epidemiology or Biostatics (with a minimum 5 years experience)
    • Demonstrated experience managing, programming, cleaning, preparation and statistical analysis of health data (particularly mental health data)
    • Experience with database software/web applications
    • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting research / evaluation projects in either a university, clinical or organisational setting.
    • Experience monitoring the quality and fidelity of research implementation.
    • Demonstrated experience training and supervising other staff/students on research/evaluation projects.
    • Experience in undertaking variety of research programs including large scale and complex research programs as well as quantitative and qualitative research studies in the field of mental health.
    • Experience with stakeholders subject to occupational traumatic stress particularly Defence and the Emergency Services.
