Position Summary

Working under general direction, the Community Development Officer (Intercultural) will collaborate with the Health, Counselling and Disability Team, International Student Services and the wider university to develop and implement a suite of programs aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of international students and the promotion of intercultural connections and understanding between international and domestic students.

The incumbent will work in partnership with both international and domestic students in the organisation, in relation to the promotion, delivery and evaluation of events and initiatives. The position involves a combination of administrative and non-administrative tasks.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a degree qualification in a relevant field without relevant work related experience and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Sound knowledge of event and program planning and the delivery processes and techniques employed to achieve required objectives within scope and budget.
  • Demonstrated broad understanding of issues facing international students in Australia and the challenges and opportunities of multicultural integration in a tertiary environment.
  • General understanding of community development approaches.
  • Demonstrated skills in the delivery of training programs.
  • Effective to well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with a diverse range of students in formal and informal contexts.
  • A proven passion for improving the wellbeing and experience of students in a tertiary environment.
  • Well-developed computer skills and a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office package.
  • Demonstrated well-developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work both with supervision and independently according to defined priorities to meet deadlines and take initiative as required.
  • Demonstrated desktop publishing and social media promotion skills.
