Senior Counsellor – Student Services

The objective of the Student Services Directorate is to provide a range of services and support functions that enhance the student experience and assist in ensuring student success. The current initiatives run by Student Services fall into a number of areas:

  • Advice Teams | The focus is on enabling student success through providing general and specialist support including accommodation, disability and inclusion, general welfare and international student advice.
  • Learning Development Team | The focus is on supporting student success through online, group and one to one initiatives to enhance academic and learning skills for students.
  • Counselling Team | The focus is on providing an opportunity for enrolled students to access professional counselling so that they may better develop and fulfil their personal, academic and professional potential.
  • Student Experience Teams | The focus is on delivering projects that help students make connections and partnerships that enhance their experience at UQ. The work of this team will provide opportunities for students to build a sense of belonging and support within UQ. Services are delivered across the St. Lucia, Gatton and Herston campuses. About This Opportunity

To provide mental health and general counselling interventions for enrolled students and professional supervision to post-graduate psychology students. The Senior Counsellor will also facilitate and develop workshops, groups, and other educational programmes, primarily related to mental health and wellbeing. This role may also contribute to the work of the Sexual Misconduct Support Unit in supporting members of the UQ community who have experienced sexual assault or sexual harassment that might be affecting their studies at UQ.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have postgraduate qualifications in psychology and relevant experience in a similar role as well as accreditation with AHPRA to train supervisees in a suitable endorsed area of practice.

You will have an understanding of developmental theories, psychological disorders and appropriate interventions, community education and public mental health as well as demonstrated effectiveness in the delivery of evidence based counselling You must have ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 12 months at HEW level 8.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $100,264 - $112,583, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $117,309 - $131,723.
