The Statewide Vision Impairment Services team builds the capability and confidence of school leaders, teachers and specialist staff to improve the educational achievement of students who have vision impairment, including through orientation & mobility services.

    Your Role

    The Advisory Visiting Teacher, Orientation and Mobility (AVT-O&M), Statewide Vision Impairment Services, in collaboration with the HOD O&M, will be responsible for assessment, program development and delivery in relation to the O&M needs of students with vision impairment.

    The AVT-O&M will manage a caseload of students and provide support to the AVTs-VI and school teams to identify and prioritise student O&M needs, guiding referral and access to O&M services.

    As a member of the SVIS O&M Team, the AVT-O&M will participate in identifying, developing and delivering the professional learning needs of AVTs-VI, TsVI and school based staff as appropriate in relation to the O&M needs of students in their education environments.The AVT-O&M will support school teams to understand their role in developing the student's O&M skills and provide personalised learning opportunities to build workforce capability that maximizes student access and participation in the curriculum.Maintaining teaching competency and current knowledge of relevant O&M related practices, tools and technologies for students with vision impairment will be essential. The AVT-O&M will contribute to the development of O&M teaching and learning informational resources for the service.

    The AVT- O&M will be a contributing member of the Statewide Vision Impairment Services Team.
    The AVT-O&M role is accountable to the Deputy Principal Statewide Vision Impairment Services, (base location is negotiable).
    One temporary part-time position is available until December 9, 2022.
    Statewide travel may be a requirement of this position.

    Qualification in teaching students who have vision impairment and approved qualifications in O&M as recognised by the Orientation and Mobility Association Australasia (OMAA) are preferred but not mandatory for application to this position.

    Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.     In addition to registration, teachers working in Education and Care Services (including State Delivered Kindergarten programs) require an exemption card issued by Blue Card Services. For more information on blue cards and exemption cards, please CLICK HERE.
    Employment for pre-service/graduate teachers will be subject to the successful completion of a relevant teaching qualification and meeting the minimum requirements as a teacher with the department.
