This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2021.

Balcatta Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a strategic and innovative leader with outstanding interpersonal skills to join our executive team. 

We are looking for an experienced, collegiate and enthusiastic administrator who will work closely with the Principal and executive team to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals to develop strategies and targets to support the School Business Plan. You will use effective change management strategies to support the school improvement agenda, continually reflecting and reviewing school processes and procedures.

You will enhance a performance and development culture with proven understanding of developing teachers practices to improve student outcomes. You will have a deep understanding of contemporary pedagogy and will apply this knowledge to support Balcatta SHS.

Other highly desirable skills include the ability to link operational skills to enhance the school’s improvement agenda, including proven success in the development and management of timetabling, human resource management and the ability to use school data to inform evidence based planning.

About the role

This is an exciting time to be joining Balcatta SHS. Aligned to the implementation of the School Business Plan, the successful applicant will assist whole school change and improvement from Year 7 to Year 12

The role will focus on building a cohesive model overseeing students in lower school.

This year the school has launched a Parent Owned Device (POD) program in Year 7 and Science, Tehchnology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) initiative in Year 7 and Year 8.

The school is currently undergoing expansion, renovation and refurbishment of the buildings. Our updated buildings incorporating the latest in technology and resources, are planned to be completed by the end of term one 2021.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.


Employees will be required to:

  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
