Detailed Description

The conducts research around the nature and cause of the disorder of stuttering, and how it can be treated during childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Much of the work conducted within the Centre involves seeking, obtaining, and administering research grant funds from government and private sources. The day to day work of the Centre involves conducting clinical and basic research and disseminating research findings in scientific journals. The Centre also operates a continuing education program for speech pathologists, graduate and undergraduate professional preparation coursework, and supervision of research by higher degree students.

We are seeking an experienced speech pathologist to join the team at the Australian Stuttering Research Centre to provide support to the Director and research staff, and to assist with clinical and research activities conducted at the Centre.

About the role:

The clinician will provide specialist clinical services to support the clinical and research activities conducted at the Centre. This role includes:
1. Providing speech pathology assessment and treatment services for children and adults who stutter who attend the Australian Stuttering Research Centre clinic
2. Providing speech pathology assessment and treatment services for children and adults who stutter within clinical trials according to research protocols.
3. Providing speech pathology assessments for children, adults and adolescents with speech and/or communication disorders.
4. Documenting client information according to policies and procedures.
5. Managing client information and participant data according to policies and procedures.
6. Liaising with other speech pathologists, researchers and academics involved with the clinical and research activities of the Australian Stuttering Research Centre.
7. Providing research support including data collection, data management and administrative support for the research activities of the Centre.
8. Providing leadership in the form of co-ordinating research projects from commencement to a timely completion.

About you:

You will bring to this role:

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for Speech Pathology Australia membership
  • Sound knowledge of Lidcombe Program, Westmead Program, Oakville Program, and Camperdown program procedures
  • Demonstrated high level problem-solving skills for the treatment of clients with complex clinical presentations
  • Considerable experience treating adults and children who stutter
  • Well-developed negotiation, conflict resolution, relationship building and influencing skills

Base Salary: $91,873 to $101,633 pa (HEW 7)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
