Unique and successful APY Trade Training Centre established and ready for next stage in business development, providing industry standard Vocational Education and Training for Anangu learners.

Strategic hands-on role operating vocational education facility that includes provision of industry-standard learning facilities, catering, and accommodation in regional administrative centre.

Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Trade Training Centre (APY TTC) is a purpose-built training facility, located at Umuwa, in the remote far north-west of South Australia. It provides training in dedicated weekly blocks for school students and negotiated times for the wider community. Umuwa is the centrally located administrative centre for the APY Lands and provides a destination for young Anangu that is central, and on independent land. Students travel to Umuwa from their home communities to undertake specific industry vocational training aimed at providing nationally accredited Vocational Education and Training, career insight, increased capability, and credit towards SACE. Accommodation at Umuwa for students (school and community) attending the facility is provided through the APY TTC Student Accommodation (A 24 bed dedicated short stay facility, accessed under school excursion conditions). APY TTC is operational for 48 weeks per calendar year, and is also available for weekend activity, however does not operate during the December – January school holiday period.

The APY TTC provides a service to the 8 schools on the APY Lands and, by negotiation, to the remaining schools in the Department for Education Anangu Lands Partnership that are spread across the remote and isolated far north and western Aboriginal lands of the Yalata, Maralinga Tjarutja and APY Anangu (people). There are very limited services in this area. The traditional Anangu owners of these lands manage the area through elected Councils and an elected Executive Board and the areas are designated dry areas meaning no alcohol or drugs are permitted.

APY TTC Student Accommodation operates for 48 weeks per calendar year, 7 days per week. The facility is made available on fee for service, with first priority to students attending training at the APY Trade Training Centre, and where capacity is available, to other agencies and individuals requiring short stay accommodation.

APY TTC offers a combination of seminar room, workshops, commercial kitchen meeting facilities (video-conferencing and face to face) and catering, at a fee for service, whilst providing catering industry experience to VET students.

APY TTC currently provides up to Certificate 3 level training in the following industry areas; Automotive, Construction, Horticulture, Community Services, Commercial Cookery, Hospitality and Early Childhood Education.

The Operations Coordinator, APY TTC undertakes the planning, implementation and review of the operational requirements, coordinates smooth operations and business support associated with programs and activities of the APY TTC and the Student Accommodation, including as needed hands-on preparation, house-keeping, cleaning, laundering, catering, grounds, re-stocking and minor maintenance.

The role provides significant operational support to the Principal Manager, including in relation to enhancing business operation, sustainable work roles and flexibility in service provision and works collaboratively with the Senior Project Officer and participating RTO’s in support of improved educational outcomes for Anangu students and the APY TTC objectives. Operations Coordinator – APY TTC reports directly to the Principal Manager APY TTC.
