About the Opportunity

The position of Trainer / Assessor will join a highly motivated, dynamic Training team in our South East Queensland footprint. The base location is flexible with delivery of training covering our Gold Coast and Wivenhoe region sites. You will be part of a dynamic, progressive training team delivering and assessing the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support across Home Care/Disability, Aged Care and/or Palliative care training programs. The training is delivered face to face and when necessary online across our Queensland and northern NSW footprint. We are bringing the fun back into the training room and we are looking for dynamic and innovative people that have the ability to build trusting relationships and achieve confidence and communication and new skills to their students.

Your training role is part of our expanding Employment Preparation & Training business unit that includes the RTO, the Skills for Education & Employment (SEE) Program and the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) program, delivered as part of jobactive commitments. The Individual Support Program delivers skillsets as well as the full qualification to internal jobseekers looking for a new career opportunity.

You will have experience in creative delivery of the training packages, have a solution focussed attitude, and the self –motivation to bring new opportunities to the RTO, along with good operational knowledge of quality and expectations of the VET sector and the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

A fixed-term full time contract until 30 June 2022 will be offered to the successful candidate.

Within our RTO, we are expanding and aim to continue to deliver high quality training support services that enables our community cohorts to continue to further training opportunities, secure and sustain meaningful employment or start their own business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the successful delivery of nationally endorsed Training Packages/accredited courses and/or customised industry courses. This includes training in the classroom and/or assessing trainees in their workplace, and preparing appropriate resources and classes based on Training Packages.
  • Provide detailed unit/module outlines, assessment guidelines and tools, for students and trainees.
  • Monitor and review program activity and standards to ensure funding guidelines are met and comprehensive records of participation and outcomes are kept.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure training activities are complementary and utilise NORTECs existing knowledge, expertise, resources and industry/business links.
  • Maintain knowledge of VET industry initiatives in line with the organisation contracts and programs.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the Training department and wider organisation.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications


  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40116) or its successor and/or Diploma or higher qualification in adult education and current qualifications and industry experience in relevant fields.
  • Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015) and/or higher. Retail qualifications an advantage.
  • Current Working with Children Check clearance for NSW/QLD or ability to obtain it prior to commencing employment and willingness to undertake AFP National Police Check
  • Driver's License and reliable transport

Knowledge and experience

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in relevant vocational industry including demonstrated experience in training and assessment in a competency-based training environment and an understanding of nationally endorsed Training Packages and accredited courses.
  • Demonstrated experience with VET Quality Framework and understanding of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015.
  • Demonstrated awareness of understanding the issues encountered by disadvantaged learners, particularly long-term unemployed people and adult learners.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office suite user, especially Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Understanding of online learning teaching methodologies with the ability to facilitate, train and assess using this method

  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels including an ability to build, maintain and support student relationships and divisional growth opportunities
  • Demonstrated capacity to interpret guidelines effectively, plan, implement and review training programs and assessment tools, for nationally accredited qualifications.
