In order to achieve this vision, ECU will soon be commencing a new phase in the development of its Next Generation Digital Learning Environment: a transition of its Learning Management System (LMS) from Blackboard Original to Canvas. This will be a significant program of work, both in scale and in the impact on the teaching and learning experience.

This role will form part of an LMS Academic Transition Project team located in ECU’s Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT). The Academic Transition Project will contribute to the work of the CLT by ensuring a successful transition of ECU’s courses, staff and students into the new LMS. Working collaboratively with existing CLT staff, and staff and students across ECU, the project team will lead and support the implementation of the new environment, in line with ECU’s Technology Enhanced Learning Standards, and conceptualise, plan and implement a highly supported, whole-of-institution approach to staff and student adoption.

The Role
The Centre for Learning and Teaching in conjunction with the University’s LMS Program is seeking a Learning Designer who is passionate about working closely with academic staff to improve the student learning experience and ensure student success through the development of high-quality curriculum and engaging approaches to teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience in applying effective learning design principles and strategies for technology enhanced and fully online environments in a higher education setting.

Key Criteria

Suitable Candidates Will Meet The Following Selection Criteria
  • Undergraduate degree or higher qualification in Education, Instructional Design, Psychology, or related area
  • Ability to apply learning design principles and learning theories to support learner-centred active and engaged learning in unit design with a strong focus on transformative and flexible learning experiences; accessibility; digital assessment tools and improved learning outcomes
  • Ability to analyse staff requirements, map those requirements to existing tools and services, and to deliver well-designed and effective solutions to those academic staff
  • Willingness and commitment to learn and adopt various technologies to enhance the teaching and learning experience and to directly support staff in their use
  • Significant experience in developing high quality digital tools, templates, and resources to support good pedagogical practice
  • Teaching experience in a higher education setting (Desirable)
  • Experience with Canvas (Desirable)

Benefits & Remuneration

These fixed-term positions attract remuneration of $90,220 to $101,090 p.a. plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
