This is a nine (9) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2021 with possible extension and/or permanency

Hammond Park Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Childhood Education (ECE) Deputy Principal to join their team in a Fixed-Term capacity in terms 2, 3 and 4 of this year with possible extension in 2022.

In collaboration with the Principal and the administration team, the Deputy Principal will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school’s vision, Business Plan and strategic directions across the school community.

The successful candidate will manage the Kindy (K), Pre-Primary (PP) and Year One team and its leaders. It would be highly regarded you have experience with the National Quality Standard (NQS), the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), On Entry assessment and a comprehensive understanding of ECE planning frameworks. It is also highly regarded that they support a strategically embedded approach to play based learning through a shared philosophy across K, PP and year one.

In addition to this, the role includes an understanding of SAER processes and managing K and PP students who are at educational risk, their documented plans and coordinating with a range of agencies beyond the school to ensure their diverse needs are well-managed. An understanding of the EALD funding model, helping teachers plan with EALD Progress Maps and family and student support and management is also an important part of this diverse role at HPPS.

A high level of pastoral care and knowledge of managing student behaviour that aligns with our school’s PBS approach, is also desirable. Experience with purchasing, managing, resourcing and technical support for a large bank of devices used in K – year 6, is also part of this role. 

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Employees will be required to:

  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and

Employees will be required to:

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
