Position Information

Maroota Public School is a small semi–rural school situated in the Hawkesbury region. The school takes great pride in providing a safe and highly educational environment for each student to explore their learning potential. Maroota Public School has an enrolment of 19 students and operates two classes, which caters for a wide range of needs and learning abilities. The small school atmosphere and small class sizes enable genuine relationships to develop ensuring that individual needs are met.

Maroota Public School is an active member of the Hawkesbury Small Schools Learning Community. The school works closely with the neighbouring schools of Macdonald Valley Public School, Wisemans Ferry Public School and Cattai Public School to provide a diverse range of learning opportunities for all students.

Parental support and community participation is strong, welcomed and valued. There is a strong partnership between the school and its P&C, which has led to positive relationships with parents, carers and the wider community. A before and after school care facility operates within the school grounds.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.

Demonstrated understanding of the teaching, leadership, management and organisational roles of a Teaching Principal in a visible, approachable and highly collaborative way to drive whole-school teaching and learning programs.

Exemplary classroom teaching practice which delivers high quality, differentiated learning in literacy and numeracy to engage students and improve outcomes.

Evidence of visible leadership and excellent interpersonal skills to continue to build positive and respectful relationships with a highly collaborative school community, with the capacity to contribute to a small schools network.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people


If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW Public School at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed the NSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply, and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificate or final credential certificate as part of your application.

An unconditional full approval to teach is arequirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSWDepartment of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as youapply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP2 for 2021.
