Position Information

Goulburn Public School was established in 1868 and is the oldest school in Goulburn. Goulburn is a thriving regional town located an hour north of Canberra, two hours south of Sydney and less than two hours drive from the South Coast. In 2021, the school will operate seven mainstream classes from Kindergarten to Year 6 and three Support Classes.

There are 170 students enrolled, with an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander enrolment of 24%. A Support Unit was established in 2019, with an allocation of one Multi-categorical Class (MC) and one Emotionally Disturbed (ED) class. With the success of these two class and further need to accommodate the needs of a range of local students, a third class, MC, will be created in 2021.

Goulburn Public School is a Positive Behaviour for Learning School. Through a strong Learning Support Team, input of an Instructional Leader and dedicated teaching and support staff the value-added results in the area of literacy have increased sharply in recent years. The introduction of MiniLit and Initial Lit are features of the teaching program. High expectations of student behaviour and work ethic are features of the school

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, 
Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated experience teaching children with autism, behaviour difficulties, emotional disturbance, a range of intellectual disabilities and complex additional needs.

Exceptional curriculum knowledge with a demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum to engage students and develop dynamic Individual Education Plans that respond to the social, emotional, behavioural and academic learning needs of each student in consultation with all stakeholders.

Proven ability to sensitively, professionally, engage, encourage and mentor and inspire a support unit teaching team.; whilst fostering strong relationships with families, paraprofessionals and support agencies to create and deliver quality teaching and learning programs for students within a support unit.

Demonstrated capacity to work as a member of the executive team to lead and implement change, school planning and evaluation to ensure implementation of strategic directions.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
