JOB DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a creative, driven and resourceful instructional designer to join the APNIC team. The position will be responsible for leading a one-year project that delivers online courseware and gamified material, to explain how the Internet works. Both the courseware and game will be aimed at non-technical audiences.

The project consists of two parallel and mutually reinforcing bodies of work. The first one consists of the development of a self-paced online course, which will require an assessment of existing materials and working alongside SMEs to calibrate the content in a way that is compelling and educational to non-technical audiences. Once complete the course will be publicly available on our community learning platform of the APNIC Academy. The course material will also be available as standalone slideware for in-person training.

The second body of work consists on developing a digital version of an existing educational card game developed by APNIC to explain how the Internet is built and operated. When played in person the game involves interactive group activities that guide players through different modules. The project at hand involves enhancing this game substantially, for use either online or in a blended setting involving face-face participants.

The role is being offered on a 1-year independent contractor engagement (ABN required) and is suited to someone with a background in learning design and project management - it would also be nice if your background included experience in the gaming industry.

About You

To be successful in the role it is essential that your background includes:

Demonstrated experience of designing online content, assessment tools and other learning assets to a high standard
Work experience in educational environments/vocational/HE/Uni sector/s
Experience in managing external contractor/providers according to budget and timeline
Project management experience
A user-driven mindset: strong on empathy, brilliant at listening, and ace at articulating insights, needs or requirements

It will also be advantageous if your background includes:
Work experience with educational gamification and/or the gaming industry
Passionate about the inner workings of the Internet, its history, governance and evolution
Ability to speak / read / write an Asian or Pacific Language

Team and cultural fit are equally as important to us as your technical know-how, so you should demonstrate:

High-level capacity for adaptability, flexibility, resilience and commitment, and the ability to apply sound judgment and reasoning, particularly when under pressure
Ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships across all levels of the organisation and externally
Strong administrative, planning, time management and organisational skills
A thirst for continuous learning

In return, APNIC offers the successful the candidate a supportive and inclusive environment, in a modern, flexible and multicultural workplace.

Who are we and what do we do?

As the Regional Internet Registry for Asia Pacific, we work for the good of the Internet and the 4.5 billion people who use it across the region. We're a Not-For-Profit and are responsible for overseeing the distribution of IP addresses - and providing wider Internet addressing services - to governments, organisations and individuals. We also provide support to our membership of more than 8,000 across 56 economies.

Why is this so important?

The people who created the Internet decided right from the start that it should be a public resource and that it needs to be managed and shared in a fair way. We help make that happen. By managing fair access to IP addresses, and delivering support and guidance to those who are using them, we enable and promote an open and equal Internet in the Asia Pacific and beyond.
