This is a permanent part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2021.

Kewdale Primary School (PS) is seeking an energetic and efficient Gardener-Handyperson to join their team.

As our schools Gardner-Handyperson you will show initiative by using your skills to benefit the school in maintaining and presenting the school grounds and gardens in a clean tidy condition, providing students and staff with a safe external learning environment.

The successful applicant will ideally have a passion for the outdoors and enjoy working to provide a suitable growing environment for our students and staff. You will be required to maintain tools and equipment in a serviceable condition and perform minor repairs and maintenance as well as perform tasks and duties using safe work practices, with minimal disruption to students and staff. You will provide advice and support to the Manager Corporate Services on school grounds maintenance and maintain accurate gardening records.

We are seeking applicants with effective communication skills, who are friendly, helpful and caring; a punctual team player who enjoys gardening and taking pride in their work to keep our gardens looking great.

Kewdale PS is a well-organised and well-equipped school. The school has a library resource centre, under cover area, purpose built Science Room together with a Pre-Primary Centre. In addition, the administration area is of a modern spacious design.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Employees will be required to:
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
