JOB DESCRIPTION

The Office of Medical Education (OME) is responsible for the smooth running of the UQ MD program and for leading the provision of a high quality educational experience supported by robust assessment. The OME’s aim is to ensure that graduates are well prepared to be doctors who provide excellent healthcare to their patients and communities wherever in the world they practice.

The OME takes a whole-of-program approach to the education of medical students. This is a highly collaborative endeavour in which the OME works closely with the various stakeholder groups, including clinical schools, to enable UQ medical graduates to be well prepared to move on to the next stage of medical training.

The Director of the OME reports directly to the Medical Dean, provides advice on the development and resourcing of the UQ MD program, and is responsible for implementation of the MD/MBBS curriculum.

About This Opportunity

This position works in collaboration with the Academic Lead Year 1 and Heads of Clinical Schools/Units to support the teaching and learning of students enrolled in courses within the second year of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program. The successful appointee will ensure the effective coordination and integration of teaching and learning activities within the courses through interaction with Course Coordinators and Course Teams, but also as Co-Chair of the Phase 1 Sub-Committee. The key focuses of the role are to optimize preparation for full time clinical placements in Year 3, promote effective communication between OME, academics and students within Year 2 and contribute directly to the effective functioning of the OME, engage in scholarly activities, and undertake direct teaching within the program.

This position is based in the office of Medical Educated located at our Herston Campus, UQ’s core campus for clinical and public health teaching and research. Sharing premises with Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, the campus houses a vibrant clinical and research community that leads innovative and contemporary research and education programs in a clinical academic environment. Conveniently located just minutes from Brisbane’s city centre, there is access to multiple public transport connections and cycling facilities.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking candidates who are medically qualified with current experience as a medical practitioner, discipline-based clinical teaching, and demonstrated skills in supporting learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The successful appointee must be proficient in the development and management of integrated health curricula, including the development of relevant learning and teaching resources and be able to ensure consistency of learning, teaching and assessment across multiple sites, years and knowledge domains.

You will be an exceptional communicator with the ability to engage effectively in the scholarship of teaching and learning and be able to establish effective relationships across the University and in healthcare, academic and community settings.
