About the team

The Manager, Student Equity oversees development and delivery of programs and initiatives to support students from underrepresented cohorts across the student lifecycle (from outreach and access through to completion). Student Equity supports widening participation, manages equity-based school partnerships, supports alternative entry pathways and provides targeted transition, retention and progression support.

As part of Student Success and Wellbeing, Student Equity focuses on support for domestic students primarily from low Socio-Economic Backgrounds, Regional and Remote Areas, and Women studying in non-traditional areas. In addition, Student Equity partners with the School of Indigenous Studies to support Indigenous Students. Student Equity also extends support opportunities to students who fit into other identified equity cohorts or face challenges based on race/ethnicity/nationality, gender, parental education level, disability, sexual orientation, age, or spirituality/religiosity/worldview.

About the opportunity

As the appointee, you will have a specific responsibility for the operation of programs and initiatives and for establishing the strategic direction of programs through development of the annual plan with priorities and strategies closely aligned with divisional and University goals. You will provide leadership, maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners and offer strategic advice on matters relating to student equity.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A postgraduate qualification in education or a relevant area or equivalent competency
  • Substantial and extensive management experience in the strategic development of equity and access initiatives, preferably gained in a University environment or similar large and diverse organisation
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a role that includes team and project leadership and the management and development of people
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to consult at all levels and develop strong internal and external relationships with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent planning, organisational and project management skills, including demonstrated ability to contribute to long-term planning and key strategic direction
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a budget
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with a willingness to support others and embrace new responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex data, present findings and advocate positions to Senior and/or Executive management/committees
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databased, email, online collaboration and project management tools and common software applications
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the Australian tertiary and school education sectors, particularly relating to students and equity
