JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you passionate about the impact early intervention can have in children’s lives?

As the Partner in the Community for the NDIA’s Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) service across Logan/ Beenleigh/ Redlands, Brisbane and the Moreton Bay region (Caboolture/ Strathpine), The Benevolent Society is excited to be recruiting additional Child Development Specialists to the team.

Terms: Full time fixed term contract until the 30th June 2022.

The Opportunity:

You will meet with families to gather information on their child’s development, and to support them in developing goals for their child. You will report to a Team Leader, and work within a trans-disciplinary team alongside other professionals, such as Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Early Childhood Teachers, to determine the best supports for children with a developmental delay and/or disability and their families.

The Work

Having an aptitude for interpretation of legislation will also be very helpful to you in this role – but don’t worry, we have Senior Practitioners and Team Leaders who can support you to interpret and apply the legislation. A large portion of your week will be spent travelling to meetings with families – so enjoying variety, interacting with different people and getting out and about is also important.

As an evolving scheme, the NDIS environment can be quite dynamic, so an openness and resilience to change will set you up for success in this role.

These roles represent a unique opportunity to have a genuine impact on the lives of the children and families you will work with.

What you'll bring

  • A qualification (or working towards a qualification) in early childhood education, social work, psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy of other relevant Health or Human Service qualifications.
  • Other relevant experience in early childhood education or development favourably considered.
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrated experience of early childhood curricula, learning frameworks and child development
  • Experience working with and supporting vulnerable children and their families to realise positive change and developing individual early intervention plans in consultation with them.
  • Great written communication skills and an aptitude for report writing
  • Great interpersonal communication skills and the ability to quickly develop rapport with children and their families.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • An aptitude for developing an understanding of NDIS legislation
  • A current driver’s licence and eligibility for a Blue Card
