To become a Caseworker you will require;

  • a valid driver’s licence and willingness to drive

  • be nearing the completion of your Social Work of Psychology degree

The Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 requires persons engaged in children related work to have a Working with Children clearances. Where can I get more information about the locations of these opportunities?

Glen Innes CSC:

Glen Innes CSC is on the country of the Ngoorabul people and the land of the Glen Innes Local Land Council. Due to its high altitude, Glen Innes offers one of the coolest climates outside of the Snowy Mountains. Glen Innes is also nicknamed “Gemstone Country” because of the sapphires and other gems that have been discovered here. It is a captivating rural town with an annual Australian Celtic Festival with the famous Standing Stones paying tribute to its Celtic heritage. And for those aspiring writers, there is the annual High Country Writers Festival held this year in October.

Inverell CSC:

Inverell CSC is on the country of the Gamilaroi nation beside the Macintyre River of NSW.

Renowned for the production of many fine gemstones, Inverell has earned the name of ‘Sapphire City’ and hosts an annual 10 day Inverell Sapphire City Festival. Inverell is a great place to get outdoors in the Kwiambal National Park with bushwalking tracks, mountain bike trails, fishing and camping. 

Moree CSC:

If you have ever wanted to gain experience working in collaboration with a strong Aboriginal community and learn from Aboriginal colleagues this could be the opportunity you have been looking for. Moree is located in the beautiful Gwydir Valley and is on Kamilaroi/Gomeroi Country, the second largest nation on the east coast of Australia. It is a town rich in culture, history and agriculture, and is famous for its hot artesian springs at places like the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre where you can discover the therapeutic benefits of soaking in naturally sourced mineral-rich hot springs from deep inside the Great Artesian Basin. Moree has direct flights to Sydney and the Moree XPLORER runs daily from Sydney to Moree.

In addition, employees who work in the Moree CSC may be entitled to an additional week of recreation (annual) leave and also a Remote Area Living Allowance.

Tamworth CSC:

Tamworth CSC is on the land of the Kamilaroi people, one of the four largest Aboriginal nations in Australia. Tamworth is the country music capital, with the annual Tamworth Country Music festival and a multitude of events throughout the year. Tamworth is also home to spectacular national parks where you can head bushwalking, camping, fishing and canoeing by the Namoi River and the Chaffey Dam. And if you are a foodie, the annual Taste Tamworth festival runs for 10 days every year in April.

Narrabri CSC:

Narrabri CSC is on the land of the Kamilaroi people. It is also a great base for outdoor adventure being based next to Mount Kaputar and the Namoi Valley and is home of the CSIRO’s world-leading Paul Wild Observatory. Narrabri is also known for high quality wheat, lamb, beef and is the centre of a major cotton-growing industry.

Armidale CSC:

Armidale CSC is on the country of the Anaiwan people and the land of the Armidale Local Aboriginal Land Council. Armidale is also fast becoming known as a wine and foodie destination with local produce showcased at the Farmers Markets and annual food festivals. The region is dotted with waterfalls, deep gorges, rivers, ancient rainforest and abundant wildlife. Armidale is also known as a university town, being the home of the University of New England with other universities and TAFE campuses in town. Armidale has a population of over 30,000 with education and training, health and social services and agriculture being the three largest employers.

Muswellbrook CSC:

The Muswellbrook CSC is located on the land of the Wanaruah and the Kamilaroi peoples in the Upper Hunter Valley. It is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, champion thoroughbred horse studs and national parks. Muswellbrook is renowned for its high quality food and wine with its annual Wine and Food Affair every May.
