This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2021

Wirrabirra Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Gardener – Handyperson to join their team.

We are seeking community minded applicants with effective communication skills to maintain accurate gardening records and provide advice and support to the Manager Corporate Service on school grounds maintenance. To be successful as Gardener – Handyperson you should be confident in performing minor repairs and maintenance and be able to perform all duties using safe work practices in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines. Knowledge of the safe storing of chemicals and the ability to use a computer will be highly desirable.

In this role you will be responsible for maintaining and presenting our school grounds in a clean and tidy condition and provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. The gardener also maintains tools and horticultural equipment in a serviceable condition. The successful applicant will ensure that formal and informal sports areas are marked and have a good working knowledge of reticulation systems.

Wirrabirra PS is an Independent Public School situated in the Perth metropolitan area. We cater for students in Kindergarten to Year Six. Our school campus has shared facilities with an Education Support Centre and operates an inclusive program for all students. This enables the education programs for students to be supported by teacher expertise from the Primary School and Education Support Centre.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process
