About The Team

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new team developing and delivering cutting-edge programs. We need passionate people who are able to effectively facilitate activities to inspire the development of future skills required in the constantly evolving cyber industry.

Questacon is seeking people for the development and delivery of activities and resources contributing to Questacon’s Cyber Ready Program.

The Questacon Cyber Ready Program is part of an Australian Government initiative to improve cyber security skills, awareness and job readiness in support of Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2020. Beginning with a research and discovery phase, Questacon will build a series of program activities reaching students, teachers, industry professionals and the community to increase cyber literacy, capability and confidence and build a cyber ready workforce into the future.

Cyber Squad Mentors will be associated with several components of the Cyber Ready Program, including professional learning activities for teachers, activities for primary and high school students, working with industry experts to explore content areas and the development of digital and physical resources. These activities will be delivered by a hybrid delivery model involving digital and physical assets and the delivery of workshops both in-person and via video conferencing technology.

The positions are part of a small team delivering the Cyber Ready Program to schools and communities across Australia. This role will require some travel.

  • Have extensive experience in one (or more) of the following or related methods of program delivery:
    • Live video conference to schools, students and educators
    • Online and print educational resources
    • Activity based workshop facilitation
    • Live presentation and/or theatrical performance
  • Hold qualifications or relevant expertise in one (or more) of the following fields or other cyber industry related arts and disciplines:
    • Computer Science
    • Information Technology
    • Data Analytics
    • Mathematics
    • Engineering
    • Electronics
    • Robotics
    • Science
    • Psychology and Behavioural Sciences
    • Science Communication
    • Teaching and Education

What you will do

Key Duties Of The Role Include
  • Delivery of high quality workshops, presentations and other activities and events using a range of formats, media, tools and technologies to varied audiences, including educators, students, and occasionally other groups across metropolitan, regional and remote areas and within Questacon’s two Canberra facilities.
  • Research, develop, test, and evaluate new content, activities and modes of delivery for Questacon’s programs and contributing to the ongoing quality assurance and improvement of programs.
  • Support and develop program delivery staff, including providing feedback and identifying training needs as well as conducting quality assurance activities for the outputs of program delivery staff.
  • Developing plans and short-term objectives for programs, and contributing to strategic planning for longer-term initiatives of the team.
  • Maintaining programs, including setting program schedules and ensuring the provision of program materials and maintenance of program equipment.
  • Assisting with maintaining appropriate risk management programs by contributing to the development of processes and procedures.
  • Liaising with teachers, students and communities to engender enthusiasm about opportunities in cyber related fields and innovation.
  • Coordinate and deliver travel arrangements and other logistics for the touring and program delivery teams.
  • Developing skills in the safe use of a range of technologies and software, and sharing these skills with others.
  • Prepare written communication and contribute to reports and stakeholder engagement documents.
  • Carrying out other activities as required in support of Questacon’s programs.
  • Working within Australian Government guidelines (e.g. Workplace Health and Safety, APS Values and Code of Conduct).

Eligibility

To Be Eligible For This Position, Candidates Must
  • Obtain or hold a current registration issued under the Working With Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 and maintain this registration for the duration of employment.
  • Undergo a 'Working with Children' police check.
  • Be able to travel for work, and work some weekends and public holidays as required.
  • Hold or able to secure a Baseline security clearance.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

Security Clearance

These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

This recruitment process is being used to fill multiple non-ongoing APS Level 5 positions for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension. A merit pool may be established to fill future Questacon ongoing and non-ongoing APS Level 5 vacancies that may or may not involve travel, should they become available within 12 months from the date advertised.
