The Opportunity
The position of Lead Systems Engineer is vitally important to the day-to-day management and operations of Monash University’s Linux-based systems. The position is also responsible for the strategic delivery of initiatives, liaising and collaborating with key stakeholders to design and deliver bespoke solutions to meet business objectives.
In collaboration with a team of staff under your supervision, you will use your specialist expertise to lead our Linux systems into the future, in line with current and changing best practice and industry standards. This is a position with a significant amount of influence across the University and as such, you will need to maintain current knowledge and remain abreast of the latest changes in the industry.
As our successful candidate, you will demonstrate:
- extensive Linux administration and tuning experience with a broad knowledge and understanding of operating and supporting large scale public and private cloud infrastructures (especially with Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
- strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to collaborate not only with your own team, but also to engage and influence high-level stakeholders
- extensive experience with Puppet Enterprise
- experience implementing and supporting containerised environments using Docker and managed containers using Kubernetes
- experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkins
It would also be desirable to have one or more of the following:
- experience with developing Ansible Playbooks
- experience with CloudFormation and/or Terraform
- experience with complex Red Hat Identity Manager (IdM) implementation and operations
- experience with OpenSCAP, SELinux and Linux hardening
