Technical Officer – Design and Furniture

  • Ongoing part time, 0.6 FTE position
  • Based in Hobart
  • Provide advanced technical knowledge and skills to support the greater academic program.

Within the College of Arts, Law and Education, the programs of the School of Creative Arts and Media are globally respected for the calibre of research conducted by staff and students, and the quality of teaching and learning programs, which provide a rich platform for future inspiration.

The Opportunity

The focus of the Technical Officer – Design and Furniture will encompass the delivery of design and fabrication using contemporary software, digital fabrication technologies, use of digital visualisation technologies and handcrafted objects in a workshop environment. Working as part of the technical support team, the Technical Officer will enjoy varied work supporting all disciplines across the School of Creative Arts and Media, including inventory, equipment procurement and professional development. Enjoy the opportunity to apply your experience with hand and power tools, plus static machine tools in combination with Computer Aided Design.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the coordination, preparation and maintenance of working/ learning spaces, plant and equipment.
  • Provide specialised technical support in delivering learning activities, including planning technical staff rosters.
  • Induct and supervise safe use of plant and equipment, promoting safe behaviours and continuous improvement.
  • Undertake preventative and on-demand repairs and maintenance, and recommend equipment upgrades.
  • Participate in risk management inspections, maintain material registers, and record licencing and safety data.

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

  • A relevant minimum of Diploma or Certificate III level qualification with extensive experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulation and a history of proactive safety-first behaviour.
  • Effective high-level skills in communication, interpersonal, budget and time managements.
  • Advanced computer literacy with competence in CAD, design software, spreadsheets and trade-related software.
  • Knowledge and skills of training others in using hand tools, workshop operations and contemporary design practice.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $90,723 comprising base salary within the range of $69,433 to $77,541 plus 17% superannuation.
