Appointment Pool

The North Metropolitan Education Regional Office (NMER) is seeking to establish a pool of experienced teachers working in Gifted and Talented Education for appointments to fixed term, part-time or relief positions in Teacher – PEAC vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Placements can be made from the pool at any time for commencement within the 2021 school year.

The North Metropolitan Education Region supports the Department’s priorities in Western Australia and commits to delivering, through schools and services, a full and engaging standard of public education, supportive of students, teachers and parents. The North Metropolitan Education Region comprises more than 240 public schools across the north metropolitan area from Cottesloe to Lancelin and east to Wooroloo.

PEAC teachers are responsible for the planning, coordination and delivery of supplementary extension and challenge programs for identified Gifted and Talented students in Years five (5) & six (6) in Primary Schools in the Western Australian public system. PEAC teachers work as part of a regional team to deliver a critical and creative skills focussed, differentiated curriculum for students identified as gifted and talented.

Experience teaching gifted and talented students is desired.

The key components of the position are:

  1. To deliver primary extension programs, which are developed in accordance with regional and departmental policies and guidelines.
  2. To fulfil administrative responsibilities to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the PEAC program.
  3. To support gifted and talented education networks in the region to allow the exchange of professional ideas and best practice.

Responsibilities include:

  • Development and delivery of rigorous and challenging teaching and learning programs
  • Assessment and reporting of student’s progress
  • Liaison with Regional Office personnel and schools is important and therefore, sound interpersonal skills are required
  • Participation in regional planning and program reviews
  • Delivery of professional learning support and programs
  • Maintaining contact with students’ home school
  • Provision of advice and support for parents
  • Assisting region-wide testing in consultation with the Regional Assessment Coordinator to manage test records, analysis and information to and from schools
  • Management of the student records
  • Day to day management of resources
  • Assisting the Line Manager to integrate the operation of the Regional PEAC team to ensure effective service delivery
  • Assisting with the Financial Management of NMER PEAC including purchases, course costs, payment of contract specialists, budgeting (per school year Facilities/resource audits)
