Our client is a professional association that draws its membership from the current and emerging leaders working in Queensland’s State Schools. They have a proud history of providing high quality support, professional learning and advocacy in order to build the leadership capabilities of staff and, in turn, improve educational outcomes for students. The Service Officer plays a critical role in the execution of this purpose.

Draw on your extensive experience as a former or current school leader to provide front-line support to members. Foster strong, authentic relationships, creating a dynamic where members in your area are inclined to reach out as needed. Provide assistance ranging from general collegial conversation to support in dealing significant school events, tragedies or local natural disasters. Facilitate wellness workshops and effective training sessions for members and local branches.
Key Responsibilities include:

  • Proactively engage with members and prospective members through school and branch visits and attendance at Regional meetings or the use of electronic platforms.
  • Contacting members where an issue/tragedy or other significant event involving their school community is occurs or appears in the media.
  • Liaising with other stakeholder agencies on behalf of the member.
  • Providing wellbeing workshops to branches, at conferences and other gatherings.
  • Leading and facilitating training of/to Branch Service Officers and providing ongoing support.
  • Liaise and work with headspace, or other government providers that support school leaders in Queensland to build strategic partnerships.
  • Explore partnership/sponsorship opportunities that may improve the service provided to members.
  • Collaborate with other Service Officers to best meet the needs of members.
  • Recording of sensitive case data onto a secure spread sheet.

To be successful you will have:

  • Significant personal experience as school principal.
  • The ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Independence from the DoE and QTU
  • Depth of knowledge of the range of state school contexts and member types in Queensland.
  • A flexible approach to that varied nature of the role and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities and responsibilities
  • The ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and contribute to work with the QASSP office team, Service Portfolio of Management Committee and the QASSP State President.
  • A willing to undertake occasional travel (approx. 10-15 days per year)

This is an initial 2 year, fixed-term contract with the opportunity for renewal. Phone, laptop and expense/travel allowances provided.
