Education, Childcare & Training
Source: uWorkin

Life Education Queensland is a health promotion charity and the state’s largest non-government provider of drug, health and safety education to children. We have a vision of generations of healthy young Australians living to their full potential.

The Role

As part of our growth strategy, we have recently created a new Social Impact team who will be working with selected school and community groups to implement a whole of school approach to health and wellbeing. With a focus on place-based initiatives, the team will work towards supporting school communities to create environments where students are enabled and supported to make healthy, positive choices regarding their own health and wellbeing.

We are now seeking a Community Development Officer to join our team and work within the Logan, Ipswich and northern Gold Coast regions.

In this exciting role you will be initially responsible for generating interest and engaging selected schools to participate in our Healthy Eats program and to work with the school and other community partners to identify and implement a range of strategies and interventions to increase vegetable and fruit consumption of primary school students. Over time, the focus of the role will expand to include a target approach towards social / emotional learning and to reduce bullying.

With a key focus on stakeholder relationships with each school you will identify gaps and opportunities where Life Education can:

· Support schools to develop a whole of school approach to improving nutrition, including school breakfast programs, fruit and vegetable gardens, school tuck-shop menu audits and other place based initiatives.

· Provide teacher professional development.

· Deliver interactive and engaging nutrition education sessions to year 5 and 6 students.

· Work with other community stakeholders to enhance our social impact.

· Additionally, the role will expand to launch and implement a social/emotional learning (SEL) framework for selected school communities.

Key Selection Criteria

We are looking for candidates who can address the following criteria in their application:

· Demonstrated experience delivering interactive and engaging educational sessions to primary students, with a focus on nutritional outcomes.

· Relevant tertiary qualifications in fields such as Education, Nutrition or similar

· Strong stakeholder relationship management skills, particularly with schools or other relevant community organisations

· Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write content for children, parents and teachers

· An understanding of the HPE curriculum as it relates to nutrition.

· Experience with presenting to a range of audiences, including teachers and parents

· Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to research and co-design solutions to problems.

· Excellent organising and planning skills, with the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment.

· Experience of working in indigenous communities would be advantageous

· This role is heavily based within the community, with the capacity to travel as required (some planned travel to North Qld may be required)

This is a full time fixed term contract until 1 July 2022.
